Unveiled as a concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007, the up! evolved from its initial rear engine layout to the production ready, front-engined model that made its public debut at the same show four years later. The up! first went on sale in Europe in December 2011 but UK customers had to wait until March 2012 for delivery of their vehicles. Looking ahead, a five-door version will join the range in the second half of 2012 followed by an electric version a year later.

It is with a tremendous sense of sadness that we must inform our readers of the untimely and sudden passing of Anne Hope, Vehicle Engineer’s publisher for the past 30-plus years. Anne was on holiday in Tenerife with her husband Tom Smith when she suffered a heart attack and subsequently died on Wednesday 20th June 2012 at the age of 80.
